National Organization of Veterinary Medical Specialists and Contributors

In an effort to improve the quality of veterinary medical information delivered in the public media, the American Society of Veterinary Journalists (ASVJ) was formed to provide certification of veterinary contributors to public media. Further ASVJ lends extraordinary credibility and confidence to both producers and editors of traditional and on-line media.

Far too many self-proclaimed animal "experts" deliver inappropriate advice and patently wrong information that can be harmful to animals and people. Often these media contributors proclaim themselves to be "experts" without any formal training. From bloggers to national television news, veterinary medical advice should be delivered by veterinarians or highly trained animal health professionals. ASVJ Certification assures its members are animal health professionals and that those members understand journalism and the responsibility that goes with their positions.
